Modern medicine has long searched for a simple safe, non-invasive, painless method of removing small, localised pockets of fat. The fact that there are so many different varieties of technique and machines available is a testament to the fact that we probably haven’t yet found the perfect answer for all cases. Yet.

However there is a new machine called the Ultrashape, developed in Israel and now appearing in the UK which promises to be the answer to the prayers of many young women and young men too, and even a fair few of the not so young……

Ultrasound devices in pregnancy use the reflection of a broad wave to see the baby’s heart and limbs. In a very different way the Ultrashape Contour I machine uses a focussed beam of ultrasound energy to break up the fat cells much as an Opera singer can shatter a glass with just her voice. The Ultrashape machine focuses that beam onto a single small point and literally shakes the cells apart.

There is no penetration of the skin, no pain, in fact very little sensation at all with each three-second pulse of energy from the Ultrashape. You occasionally feel a pleasant warming effect, but more often than not you feel nothing at all. The treatments each take roughly an hour and afterwards there is no swelling or bruising or any other sort of discomfort. The broken cells release their fat into the interstitial fluid and this is then transported by natural mechanisms directly to the liver where it is broken down and excreted.

In fact the Ultrashape treatment is so pleasant that many of our patients actually fall asleep. The same cannot be said for most of the other available techniques.

In a major new announcement the University of Science and Ecologically Local Environmental Social Statistics today stated that after a study of almost four years costing just over four million pounds they have come to the conclusion that at roughly six o’clock every morning the sun appears to rise in the sky.

There were some regional and seasonal variations in this pattern and further research would be needed to clarify the points a little more, but they feel able to say after all this time, effort and money that with a very high degree of probability the sun is likely to rise again in the morning at roughly the same time as it did earlier today. They were not completely happy at this stage to give an absolute guarantee but they did say that it was a reasonable assumption.

There. Doesn’t that make you feel better?
Sorry, you mean you already know that? Are you really sure? Why is it that so many studies are performed to state the “bleeding obvious”?

Well perhaps it is because that despite these things being ‘bleeding obvious’ we still don’t necessarily take any notice. So what ‘bleeding obvious’ things can we point out that we probably should do something about?
Stop smoking.

Anyone who doesn’t know why this is a good idea can move on to the next article about how the red squirrel is finally making a comeback in its war against the grey squirrel….
Exercise more.

Yes I know that you know that this is a good idea. I also know that you don’t do a great deal about it except for the forty eight hours or so after each new years eve resolution. Altering calorific output is easier and far more effective than altering input….
Eat better.

No I didn’t say less. ( Well maybe that Janice from the office next door could do with less but well???) A little of what you fancy certainly does you good but please stick to a little… Oh yes and cut out the stodge. You do know exactly what is healthy but somehow it never manages to end up on your plate in large enough portions….
Put more water in it.

Alcohol is very nice and can help you relax a little at the ‘office do’, but why do so many people genuinely measure how ‘good a time we had’ by how little they can remember? Also please remember to just drink more water. Dehydration is often confused for hunger and remembering to drink a glass of pure water before each meal will reduce your calorific intake without any will power required….
Chill.

Stress definitely shortens your life. Even if you are not convinced about that you would agree that it makes however few years you do get to spend here less fun. So take some deep breaths, smell the fresh flowers, and make sure that every day has a little ‘me’ time. Take some time off. Listen to some music. Play some music. Whatever it takes?…

So yes I know that you know these things are worth doing. Now is the time to turn knowledge into action. To paraphrase a famous footwear company’s tag line.
Just do it.
