In a month when the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons has reported a significant rise in treatments performed on men it seems reasonable to discuss the Male of the species.
Men have always been interested in looking good, some more than others, but if you study the output of Clinique and L’Oreal you will see an increasing interest in male grooming products. More and more men are turning away from the traditional soap and water (or sometimes no soap and very little water) skin care regime. There is an increased understanding of the dangers of sun exposure and I often think a gentle starting place for men is just to use a little sunscreen daily. I also believe that pressures in the work place have persuaded some executives who are starting to compete with younger colleagues to consider the merit of youth enhancing treatments.
So whilst many will start with Botox and Fillers some are seeking increasingly more significant treatments. Many simply don’t have the time or dedication to spend several hours a day at the gym but would still like to have a muscular figure. VASER Lipo for the male breast area or “Moobs” can certainly reduce the rather large amount of tissue in some male breasts often associated with moderate weight gain elsewhere. VASER too can also be used to reduce the pot belly of those who are doing reasonably well with the diet and exercise plan. This certainly is not a great way to reduce weight or allow you to live on fish & chips and ice cream. However used carefully and judiciously it can certainly enhance the appearance in a very satisfactory manner. This technique is certainly more about shape than total amounts of fat. It is also particularly good at problem chin fat and very much more gentle than conventional treatments.
A more recent advancement is VASER HD or Hi Definition in which a more complex and refined version can delicately sculpt the lower abs to provide more striking muscle definition. Certainly not for everyone because of cost and discomfort issues but the fact that the technology can do this level of detail at all is reassuring even for those sticking to easier and gentler degrees of benefit.
Macrolane injections can enhance the pectoral muscles and have even been used as calf implants and several other areas of the body too. Macrolane is also available to enhance the appearance and girth of the flaccid penis although, disappointingly for some, it does little to effect the erection.
One thing that is possibly less obvious is that even before the recent increased interest men have routinely provided roughly ten percent of the patient throughput at most clinics, so possibly more than many ladies would imagine.
Whilst these more specialist treatments are interesting, there are still significant numbers of male patients who attend for regular more subtle enhancements such as Botox & Fillers. As always it pays to know what is available and what is possible, this leaves the individual with the choice of how much effort they are willing to make.
